February 12th - walking Rome

A morning in Trastevere.  St Cecilia's...

These figures leaning out of a frame are all over the churches in Rome - but until this one, they have all been in places where it was not possible to make a photo.  My associations with them amuse me as they bring up the Harry Potter characters who exist only in their portraits but manage to engage in the narrative nonetheless.

Turned a corner and found myself peering into Santa Maria dell'Orto.  An elderly man greeted me and handed me a folded, photocopied page with a brief history of the church in English.

Each of the side altars featured the brotherhood that cared for it:

- The Guild of Companions and Young Pork Butchers
- The Guild of Shoemakers and Cobblers
- The Guild of Chicken Merchants
- The Guild of Wine Dressers
- The Guild of Pasta Makers and Traders
- The Guild of Merchants and Middleman at Ripa and Ripeta Harbours

After lunch headed across the city to the Quirnale and the Pantheon.  I'd been here before, but hadn't made photos then.
